Living in the hectic society that we live in, it is ever so hard to find a moment for oneself, moments to look inside, for introspection.
As a means to escape we may turn to art, visit art galleries and expos looking for that moment of quiet, a place where we can take a deep BREATH and have a fulfilling experience.
Our project was created in this context. Looking for the ultimate experience art concept, we conceived the idea of a space that could become actionable, abstract, relational; that could enclose a set of experiences, expressions and actions. A space within a space within a space.
We want the user to experience something similar to a sensory deprivation, by slowly altering inputs in the form of AIR, pressure, and temperature, mov-ing the senses back and forth between comfortable and uncomfortable and find the silence in between.
Concept
Our starting point for this project was AIR and BREATH, and we wanted to use it’s properties to create a meaningful experience in the context of ART. We wanted to explore the possibilities in this direction rather than create an object for consumption. We wanted to create a space where the interactions guide the user to look within.
We divided our approach into 3 different levels: the space, the artifact, and the user. -The space, level 1, is the context (gallery, art expo, etc.). You then enter level 2, the artifact (Zephyr), which becomes the second space, where the quietness and subsequent inputs of pressure, temperature, and airflows willtake you to level 3, your interior world.
ll 3 parts then come together again to replicate the feeling of being inside our own skin, in our lungs, looking inwards, sensing our breath, in and out, the temperature of the air, feeling the pressure of the expansion and contraction. Being in that space in between the inside and outside where deep contemplation and new possibly new sensations become a reality.
